Alright, this blue ball painting is the best example on this website for painting paint down nicely. It is a simple exercise that I recommend new painters to try out. Start with a simple shape, and try to paint it using thick strokes of paint, but not so thick that you will have impasto on the canvas. Don't go over an area many times. Try to go over the same area of little as possible. The end result is to see paint that looks very energetic with smooth transitions. The shine over the paint should look wet even after it has dried.
I tried to redo the exercise with some more complexity. That one did not turn as well. See the image with the white ball and red cube for my observations.
